Ridgeback Health Problems

At ZuluDawn Rhodesian Ridgebacks, we strive to ensure that our dogs are as free as possible from inherited health conditions.   We test our dogs for Hip, Elbow, DM and other problems - especially those that will be part of our breeding program.  We use independent certifications such as OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation).  We encourage our puppy owners to do the same.  It is invaluable in determining where problems exist and are perpetrated in the breed.   Most breeders who care about the breed and its future do genetic screenings such as these. 

Because of this,  unlike many other breeds of dogs, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is relatively trouble free.  These are the main problems you should be aware of.
